About DashVerdict

DashVerdict is an independent review and buying-advice site about dash cams. Our aim is simple: help you choose the right camera for the way you drive, honestly, without hype.

Why DashVerdict exists

Buying a dash cam is more confusing than it should be. The market is full of near-identical cameras with inflated resolution claims, footage samples shot in perfect daylight that say nothing about night performance, and reviews that read like they were written by the marketing department. We started DashVerdict to cut through that, to fit and test the cameras that are genuinely available in the UK and tell you plainly which one suits which driver, and where each one falls short.

We believe a good review tells you who a product isn't for as clearly as who it is. A premium 4K camera is the wrong buy for someone who just wants simple cover on a second car; a budget 1080p camera is the wrong buy for someone who does a lot of night driving and needs to read plates in the dark. Most of our advice comes down to matching the camera to the driver, and we'd rather say that plainly than push you towards the most expensive thing on the page.

Who writes our reviews

Our reviews are written by Tom Bradley, a motoring and in-car tech tester who has spent years fitting and road-testing dash cams in real traffic. Tom fits the cameras the way you would, runs them in the conditions that actually test a camera, in the dark, in the rain, against oncoming headlights, and judges them on the things that matter when you need the footage: how clearly they read a number plate, how they cope at night, how easy they are to fit, and whether the parking mode genuinely works. The verdicts you read here come from hands-on use, not spec sheets.

How we stay independent

DashVerdict is funded by affiliate commissions: when you buy a product through one of our links, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That funding lets us keep the site free and keep testing. Crucially, it does not buy a place in our rankings. We are not paid by manufacturers to feature or favour their cameras, and our order is decided by how the cameras perform, never by who pays the most. You can read more in our affiliate disclosure.

What we cover, and what we don't

We focus narrowly on dash cams because that's where we can be genuinely useful. Rather than spreading ourselves across every car gadget, we go deep on the cameras most people actually buy: how they record, how they handle the dark, how the parking modes behave, and how hard they are to fit. That focus is deliberate. A site that reviews everything tends to review nothing well, and dash cams are a category where small, practical details, the clarity of a plate at night, the reliability of a mount in hot weather, the fiddliness of a rear-camera install, make the difference between a camera you trust and one you regret.

We don't cover commercial fleet telematics, in-car entertainment or sat-navs in depth, except where understanding them helps you make a better dash cam decision. If a dash cam isn't the right answer for your situation, we'll say so plainly rather than push you towards a product just because we can link to it. Honest guidance sometimes means telling you a cheaper camera is all you need.

How we keep our advice current

The dash cam market refreshes constantly. Models are discontinued, replaced or rebadged, prices swing with sales and seasons, and a camera that was excellent value last year can be quietly superseded by a sharper, cheaper one. We revisit our rankings regularly, update prices and availability, and replace cameras that are no longer the best choice for their buyer. When a recommended camera is discontinued, we don't leave a dead end, we point you to the closest current alternative and explain why. Our goal is that whenever you read a recommendation here, it reflects what we'd actually buy today.

Who we write for

Most of our readers want one good recommendation and a clear explanation, not a wall of affiliate buttons. They are ordinary drivers who have realised that a dash cam is cheap protection against an expensive problem: a disputed claim, a crash-for-cash scam, a hit-and-run in a car park. We write for those people first, the driver who wants to know which camera to buy and why, and how to fit it without paying someone else to do it. If that's you, every page on this site is built to get you to the right camera as quickly and honestly as possible.

Our promise

We'll always tell you the honest downsides as well as the strengths, we'll always explain our reasoning, and we'll never recommend a camera we wouldn't buy ourselves. If you want to see exactly how we arrive at our verdicts, read how we test. And if you're ready to choose, start with our best dash cam ranking or our buying guide.
